Oxford Street is one of the most recognisable destinations in the world. A global icon that draws millions of visitors each year. Yet for many Londoners, businesses and investors, its reputation has shifted. Overwhelming, transient and increasingly disconnected from the life of the city, it had begun to lose both cultural resonance and commercial pull.

The creation of the Oxford Street Development Corporation signalled a decisive moment. Tasked with restoring the street as a place of commerce, culture and connection, OSDC needed to demonstrate immediate credibility and intent. After years of stalled initiatives and false starts, this was an opportunity to mark a clear break from the past.

We were appointed to define OSDC’s positioning, brand identity and digital presence in record time. Through stakeholder interviews, collaborative workshops and the synthesis of extensive research, we shaped and tested three distinct positioning territories, building consensus around a unifying strategic platform: Energising an icon.

The resulting identity captures a dynamic organisation moving with pace and purpose. Our identity centres on a single graphic line element; directional, energetic and connected to past, present, and future. It echoes Oxford Street’s origins as a Roman road. It nods to the horizontal rhythm of zebra crossings and people moving through the city. And as one of the UK’s most important retail and cultural destinations, the line grows to suggest uplift.
